Mediclinic International Plc rejected a £3.4 billion ($4.3 billion) takeover bid from a consortium led by a major shareholder, the South African billionaire Johann Rupert, sparking a battle for control of the country’s largest hospital operator.
Rupert’s investment vehicle Remgro Ltd. and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company SA offered 463 pence a share to take full control of the company, the partnership said in in a statement Thursday. Mediclinic rejected the proposal and the two parties are now considering their position, they said.
