Amanda Finney, chief of staff for the White House press office, is departing the West Wing for a senior communications post at the Energy Department, amid a broad reshuffling of communications staff following the departure of former press secretary Jen Psaki.

Finney -- who joined the press operation during the presidential transition -- held an outsized role in the West Wing. Traditionally, assistants to the press secretary serve as a gatekeeper to the president’s lead spokesperson, while managing a small staff of press assistants known as “wranglers,” who usher members of the media to and from presidential events.
