China’s Covid caseload is easing, though the threat of lockdowns remains as more infections are found in key cities and the country continues to have zero tolerance for any outbreaks.
There were 1,016 cases nationally yesterday, down from 1,227 a day earlier. Infections in Shanghai, which remains the epicenter of the outbreak, fell to 719 from 855. No infections were found outside of government quarantine in the financial hub for a fifth straight day. Sichuan province in the southwest reported 149 cases on Wednesday, down from 201.
