Sweden made a formal decision to seek membership in the NATO defense bloc, paving the way for a joint application with neighboring Finland, as Russia’s war in Ukraine brings to an end a long-held stance of military non-alignment in the two Nordic nations.
Sweden’s ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization will “shortly” convey the message that the country wants to become a member of the alliance, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said at a news conference in Stockholm on Monday.
