New York Governor Kathy Hochul reached a deal with Legislative leaders on Thursday to approve a new state budget with $600 million to help build a new Buffalo Bills stadium, despite criticism from elected officials and good government groups who derided it as a taxpayer gift to billionaires with little economic benefit.

With $250 million from Erie County, the combined amount of public funding would be the most in U.S. history for a single stadium. The Bills and National Football League will contribute $550 million to the new open-air arena with a capacity of at least 60,000 people. The team agreed to stay in Buffalo for 30 years.
