Spiking fuel prices are sapping Jair Bolsonaro’s approval ratings seven months before presidential elections, as Brazilians hold their president responsible for added costs at the gas pump.
Brazilians blame Bolsonaro more than Russia’s invasion of Ukraine for the added strain on their wallets, according to a survey by BTG Pactual SA investment bank and pollster FSB Pesquisa released on Monday. Earlier this month, state-owned Petroleo Brasileiro SA increased fuel prices by as much as 25% to cope with the surging cost of oil.
