Victims of the U.S. opioid crisis on Thursday got a rare chance to speak directly to members of the Sackler family, owners of Purdue Pharma LP, about how the addictive painkiller OxyContin upended their lives.
Theresa Sackler and David Alex Sackler watched in silence via video-conference while nearly 30 individuals recounted stories of dead children, lost spouses and opioid-addicted babies. Richard Sackler, David’s father and the former president of Purdue Pharma, said he was listening to the call but was not visible by video.
