Warner Bros. highly anticipated superhero reboot “The Batman” brought cheer to movie theaters this weekend, showing that Sony Group’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home” was more than a one-off success for the industry after two years of pain coping with Covid-19.

The film generated $128.5 million in U.S. and Canadian ticket sales in its opening weekend, Warner Bros. said Sunday, proving once again that film fans have an insatiable appetite for comic-book superheroes. The performance makes “The Batman” the top-grossing domestic release of 2022 thus far, said Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst at market researcher Comscore Inc.
