The Miami Marlins said Monday in a shock announcement that Hall of Fame shortstop Derek Jeter would depart as the team’s chief executive officer.
“The Miami Marlins and Derek Jeter announced today that they have agreed to officially end their relationship,” chairman and principal owner Bruce Sherman said in a statement, adding that the team had a “deep bench of talent” that will oversee business and baseball decisions while the team seeks a new CEO.
