Activist investor Carl Icahn followed through with his threat to name two directors to the McDonald’s Corp. board, escalating a dispute over what he claims is mistreatment of pigs in the restaurant company’s supply chain.
Icahn proposed Leslie Samuelrich and Maisie Ganzler to stand for election at this year’s annual meeting, McDonald’s said in a statement Sunday, adding that it will evaluate the nominees as it would with any other potential board members. Icahn is taking the fast-food chain to task because he says its suppliers house pregnant pigs in small crates, a practice he argues is inhumane.
