European natural gas and electricity pared earlier gains, after Russia signaled that diplomacy would continue over the crisis in Ukraine and milder weather was forecast for the continent.

President Vladimir Putin countered U.S. warnings that Russia may invade Ukraine within days, via televised meetings with top officials that emphasized a de-escalation of tensions. Putin has repeatedly said Russia has no plan to invade, though it has amassed troops at the border.
