California to Keep School Mask Mandate in Place Through February

  • State on Feb. 28 could announce timeline for ending rule
  • Covid cases plunging in California since January peak

California plans to keep its mask mandate for schools in place, for now.

But with coronavirus cases rapidly falling, officials may soon announce a timeline for ending the requirement, Mark Ghaly, California’s secretary of health and human services, said Monday. The most-populous state will reassess the mandate on Feb. 28 and could announce then when it will be lifted.
