Macron to Unveil Plans for Building French Nuclear Plants
- New plants and renewables needed to replace aging atomic units

French President Emmanuel Macron will outline plans Thursday to build nuclear reactors as part of the country’s goal to become carbon neutral by 2050, officials from his office said.
Jumps in the costs for oil and gas, spurred by a global economic recovery and geopolitical tensions over Ukraine, are reminders of Europe’s dependence on foreign supplies for its energy security and the strained finances of households, governments and companies. At the same time, the need to slow global warming is expected to boost electricity demand for transportation, heating and manufacturing.
