France registered more than half a million Covid-19 infections in a day for the first time, with just a week to go before some pandemic restrictions are scheduled to ease.

New cases totaled 501,635 on Tuesday, according to data from the public health office. Deaths rose by 467 to 129,489. Despite rising cases, the number of patients in intensive care is lower than it was a week ago.
