Tokyo’s government will seek stricter Covid-19 measures in the capital and its three surrounding prefectures as a new wave of infections fills up hospital beds.
In the city, home to the largest number of cases in the current wave, about 21% of hospital beds designated for Covid patients were occupied as of Monday. Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike told reporters earlier she will swiftly submit a request to the central government for tighter measures and will consider seeking the implementation of a quasi-state of emergency when that figure hits 20%.
