Italy’s Crack Down on Tax Evasion Is Slowly Paying Off

Italy is making progress in cracking down on widespread tax evasion and avoidance. The tax gap -- the difference between taxes owed and what is effectively collected -- declined to 99.3 billion euros ($112 billion) in 2019, down 3% from the previous year, thanks in part to the introduction of online invoicing. Self employed and one-person companies are the least likely to pay.
