By design, the Federal Reserve is supposed to be independent and insulated from politics. In practice, of course, the Fed answers to elected officials. And on a broader level, credibility and support among the public is important to the institution.
So here’s some good news: The public likes the Fed and Chair Jerome Powell. At least it appears to, relative to other entities and players in D.C.
