Theranos Inc. founder Elizabeth Holmes testified at her criminal fraud trial that her ex-boyfriend Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, who was also her second-in-command at the blood-testing startup, abused and tried to control her while they were romantically involved.

Holmes told the jury that Balwani gained her trust when she was just 18 and confided in him that she had been raped as an undergraduate at Stanford University, only to take control of her life and inflict sexual and emotional abuse on her for a decade.
