Ghana National Petroleum Corp. is stepping up to fill the shoes of departing international oil companies and better control the development of projects, said the state-owned company’s top executive.

GNPC recently agreed to pay Occidental Petroleum Corp. $200 million to grow its share in the Jubilee and TEN fields, and is in talks over similar moves in other blocks, Chief Executive Officer Kofi Koduah Sarpong said Oct. 16 in an interview in the capital, Accra.
