A quarter of a billion revolutions made through gale-force winds to scorching sunshine have left their mark on the turbine blades of the 24 year-old Paderborn wind farm on a hillside in Germany. Its end-of-life phase is approaching.

When the wind farm is dismantled, the blades may end up in landfill or as feedstock for cement making, but a more innovative and sustainable reincarnation could see them instead recycled into material for automotive parts, skis or even shower trays.
