Alcohol Liver Deaths Soar in Britain During Pandemic

Britons made up for the closure of pubs, clubs and restaurants during the pandemic by drinking more at home, helping drive an “unprecedented” increase in alcohol-related deaths.
Findings from Public Health England on Thursday showed an extra 12.6 million liters of alcohol were sold in shops and supermarkets in the year through March. The heaviest drinkers increased their consumption by 5.3 million liters, a likely cause of a 21% rise in deaths from liver disease.
