Like every other part of the supply chain these days, there’s a lot of stress being placed on America’s trucks and their drivers thanks to a booming economy and a large supply/demand mismatch. This is something we talked about recently on the “Odd Lots” podcast with Craig Fuller, the founder and chief executive officer of the data and information firm Freightwaves.
Unlike other parts of the supply chain — say, international shipping — trucking was already in a state of duress pre-crisis, grappling with extreme boom/bust cycles and a secular decline in the number of people who want to pursue a career as a truck driver. So the issues will persist in the space long after things “normalize” in the broader economy.
