Americans Are Avoiding Dining In as Covid Cases Spike

U.S. restaurant dine-in activity is beginning to fall once again, according to data collected by OpenTable indexing year-over-year seated diners. U.S. activity climbed back from complete shutdowns in April, to about 40% below 2019 levels in October, with the strongest recovery in the South. Over the past month, however, it has fallen 12% nationwide. Illinois has been hit the hardest, as dining activity is now just one-tenth of last year's levels after falling an additional 30% this month.
