India extended the safeguard duty on imported cells and modules for one more year from July 30, with slight tweaks. The low rate and short duration will likely have limited benefit for domestic manufacturers. The imposition of a bigger and broader basic customs duty, under discussion, could change the game by incentivizing local factories. It would however raise the cost of solar power.
