German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s political allies said that in order to ramp up climate ambition in the bloc other countries must take a bigger burden.

The CDU-CSU bloc in the German parliament wants other European Union member states to take on more social and financial responsibility to reduce emissions as the region tightens climate policies under its ambitious Green Deal. It’s a sign that the approach of the richest countries bearing the brunt of combating climate change may no longer be sustainable.
