The plunge in air travel demand caused by the coronavirus puts 25 million jobs in aviation and related sectors at risk, including 11.2 million in Asia Pacific, according to the International Air Transport Association. That forecast is based on severe travel restrictions lasting for three months. About 65.5 million livelihoods globally are dependent on the aviation industry, including tourism, said IATA, which has warned that passenger revenues for airlines worldwide could slide 44% this year. “There are no words to adequately describe the devastating impact of COVID-19 on the airline industry,” IATA Director General Alexandre de Juniac said in a statement.
