As the U.S. and China prepare to sign the first phase of a long-anticipated trade deal this week, Brussels is sending EU Trade Chief Phil Hogan to Washington to try to reset the transatlantic commercial relationship. The two sides are bitterly split over how to deal with France's digital tax, an Airbus-Boeing feud, continued U.S. threats to impose tariffs on European carmakers and a persistent trade imbalance. But with tensions between the U.S. and Iran still running high, geopolitical turmoil could spill over into trade talks in the coming months.
