Volunteer firefighters battling blazes in Australia’s most populous state will receive financial support from the government, as a heatwave threatens to escalate the crisis.

Citing the early start to the bushfire season, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the largely volunteer force in New South Wales state was “doing it tough.”
