Newfangled drugs that target flaws in tumor cells grabbed headlines at a cancer conference in Barcelona over the weekend. But Mark Velleca was just as eager to discuss a type of therapy that was cutting edge in the 1950s.

“Chemotherapy has been declared dead many times,” said Velleca, chief executive officer of G1 Therapeutics Inc. But “it will continue to be used, even as these new regimens come on.”
