Japanese chemical maker DIC Corp. agreed to buy BASF SE’s pigments business for 985 million euros ($1.1 billion) as it pushes further into providing materials for end-products such as displays, cosmetics, and automobiles.

The Japanese printing ink company plans to close the deal by the end of 2020, subject to regulatory approval, it said in a statement Thursday.
