Jake Sully, the paraplegic Marine from “Avatar,” is one tough dude, but even he may be no match for the combined power of Thor, Iron Man and Captain America.

“Avengers: Endgame,” the superhero showdown released in April, stands just $37 million shy of breaking the $2.79 billion all-time, box-office record set by “Avatar” in 2009. In one last push to win those bragging rights, Walt Disney Co. is adding extra content and doubling the number of theaters where the film is playing before it goes to home video on July 30.
