Chile’s inflation figures may have been manipulated, the statistics agency said, catching the market by surprise in a country where everything from mortgages to salaries are indexed to price-growth.
The potential manipulation took place in August and September and changed inflation by no more than 0.1 percentage points, INE director Guillermo Pattillo said in a news conference in Santiago Monday. However small though, the change could be important.
