Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reached out to Cuba to help resolve the crisis in Venezuela, calling for free elections as President Nicolas Maduro holds tight against a U.S. campaign to replace him.

With President Donald Trump’s administration leaving the option of military force on the table, Trudeau joined a group of 14 Latin American countries in turning to Venezuela’s closest ally to try to move forward from a standoff that’s also drawing in Russia.
