FTC-Qualcomm Judge in Antitrust Case Is Due for a Ruling: Chart
Judges rule over their courtrooms with strict codes of conduct and non-negotiable deadlines. But when it comes to issuing decisions in non-jury trials, the timing is up to them; they rule when they’re ready.
U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh, in San Jose, California, presided over an 11-day antitrust trial in January pitting the Federal Trade Commission against chip-maker Qualcomm Inc. A decision against Qualcomm could shake the foundation of the company’s business model, while giving competitors and customers an opportunity to cut into its margins. Anyone within arm’s length of making or selling a mobile phone, not to mention investors, is keen to learn Koh’s judgment. It’s also possible the two sides will resolve the suit through a settlement.
