Trudeau’s Child Benefit Is Helping Drive Poverty to New Lows

Canadian child poverty dropped to the lowest in records going back to 2002 as strong employment gains and higher government benefit payments boosted incomes.
The number of Canadians younger than 18 who live in poverty fell by 133,000 in 2017, to 622,000, Statistics Canada reported Tuesday. Since 2015, the number of children living below the poverty line has declined by 278,000.
