It's Raining by the Meter in Australia But Its No Disaster for Sugar

With about 2.8 meters -- more than 9 feet -- of rain drenching far north Queensland in the past two months, you might expect Australian sugarcane growers to be preparing for the worst.

But for Stephen Calcagno, the chairman of the Cairns region of the industry group Canegrowers, while the rain will certainly hit a few areas, overall the season in the country that ranks as the third-largest sugar exporter is shaping up to be average.
