We get it. Game of Thrones is popular. The series-ending season nears, the stock market has given up all of its gains for 2018, and it’s the coldest season of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

But the tagline “Winter is coming,” popularized by the long-running HBO show Game of Thrones, is nearing a saturation point in societal vernacular. Sell-side research may also be guilty of lacking ingenuity in their desire to describe impending doom and gloom in a particular sector of the stock market.
