Seychelles Ruling Party Changes Name Ahead of 2020 Elections

The Seychelles ruling Parti Lepep, which has been in power on the Indian Ocean archipelago since 1977, is rebranding ahead of elections in two years.

The party, which was founded in 1964, has changed names several times in the past and will now be known as United Seychelles, a nod to the original Seychelles People’s United Party that took power after independence. The nation will hold presidential elections next in 2020.
