Worried that the latest salmonella scare or recent hurricanes are endangering supply of Thanksgiving turkeys? Have no fear, frozen stockpiles are here to buffer any threat and keep prices in check. U.S. poultry producers work tirelessly all year to prepare for the big day, and most holiday birds come from cold-storage inventories. The stockpiles typically reach a peak in August before the turkeys start to make their way to retailers in September and October, according to Tom Elam, president of consultant FarmEcon.
