Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won a U.S. House election and will represent New York’s 14th district covering Queens and part of the Bronx, according to projections by the Associated Press. Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described Democratic socialist, is a progressive organizer who worked for the 2016 presidential campaign of Senator Bernie Sanders.

Ocasio-Cortez beat Republican Anthony Pappas in the heavily-Democratic district, as well as incumbent Democratic Rep. Joe Crowley, who she’d knocked off in the Democratic primary months ago but was still on the ballot under a third-party line. Crowley had endorsed Ocasio-Cortez and pledged to support her.
