As the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission raced to punish Elon Musk and Tesla Inc. over his infamous August tweet storm, the regulator was already in the midst of a frenzied push to sanction companies.
The effort paid off. The SEC’s September settlements with Musk and Tesla were part of a second-half surge that reversed what was shaping up to be a lean fiscal year for agency enforcement.
