President Donald Trump issued an order threatening financial sanctions if foreign powers interfere in the November midterm elections, a move that failed to assuage lawmakers who have called for a tougher stance.

The executive order Trump signed Wednesday directs the government to impose sanctions on any foreigner who participates in disrupting a U.S. election.
