Hog Futures Jump as Hurricane Threatens U.S. Production

With Hurricane Florence making its way to the U.S. East Coast, October hog futures jumped as much as 2.9 percent on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Monday. The contract was headed for a sixth straight gain, the longest stretch since it debuted in May 2017. The storm, which has the potential to slow slaughter rates in North Carolina, is lending “a clear underlying tone of support,” said Rich Nelson, chief strategist at Allendale Inc.
