Huawei Technologies Co. passed Apple Inc. to become the world’s second-largest maker of smartphones as the Chinese company expands aggressively in Europe and Africa. Huawei shipments surged 41 percent to 54.2 million phones in the June quarter as its 16 percent market share eclipsed the 12 percent that opted for iPhones, according to the latest data from market research firm IDC.
