Britons Take On Debt

U.K. households borrowed more than they earned for the first time in almost 30 years

Living Beyond Their Means?

Britons are at risk of living beyond their means. Last year, households spent or invested more than they received for the first time since 1988 to the tune of about 900 pounds ($1,187) on average -- 25 billion pounds in total, according to the Office for National Statistics. The figures raise further questions about whether years of record-low borrowing costs have resulted in an unsustainable spending spree.
