South Africa’s ruling African National Congress picked Job Mokgoro to take over as premier of the North West province from Supra Mahumapelo, who stepped down in May.

Mokgoro, a former director-general of the North West and ex-principal of South Africa’s National School of Government, is due to be sworn in by the provincial legislature on Friday. The ANC’s national working committee unanimously agreed to appoint him as premier at a meeting on Wednesday, Ace Magashule, the party’s secretary-general, told reporters in Johannesburg.
