Green Job-Creation Scheme

A switch to a more environmentally friendly economy would create millions of jobs worldwide

The right policies for promoting a greener economy would create 24 million new jobs by 2030, according to the International Labour Organization. Of 163 economic sectors analyzed, only 14 would suffer employment losses of more than 10,000 jobs worldwide, the ILO said, with just two -- petroleum extraction and petroleum refining -- experiencing losses of 1 million or more. Some 2.5 million jobs would be created in renewables-based electricity, offsetting some 400,000 jobs lost in fossil fuel-based electricity generation.
