The American adventure set propels sales of SUVs and crossovers over cars

More Americans are buying sport utility vehicles and crossovers to enjoy the great outdoors. In unit sales, they passed traditional cars in late 2016 and have only widened the gap since. As of January, the segment had surged to 45 percent of U.S. sales, while car purchases slid to less than one-third of the total auto market.
