#MeToo's Late Asian Arrival

Asian businesses may be more vulnerable than anticipated to the anti-harassment movement.

The anti-harassment #MeToo movement in the U.S. has notched up film producer Harvey Weinstein and casino mogul Steve Wynn among its casualties. Asia can only look on in envy. From Bollywood to top Chinese universities and brokerages, toxic attitudes to women are still prevalent.

So it's encouraging news that the president of NH Foods Ltd., a Nikkei 225 company, resignedBloomberg Terminal after he was present at an ugly exchange between a subordinate and an airline worker at Haneda airport in October. The incident may be considered one of very few instances of #MeToo making a mark in Japan, Bloomberg News's Shoko Oda reported.
