Trump’s Solar Tariffs to Cause Some Demand Destruction
But solar-hardware shipments should bounce back in 2022 as levies expire

The Trump administration’s decision to impose 30 percent tariffs on imported solar modules is likely to dent demand for the next four years, Bloomberg New Energy Finance forecasts. The levy will add 10 cents a watt to module prices, increasing them to 42 cents, and forcing adjustments from suppliers. BNEF analysts expect some demand destruction through 2021 and then a bounce in 2022 as the tariffs expire.
